JOY - Rapunzel

It’s so important to find joy in your hobbies and the little things in life. That’s exactly why I chose Rapunzel from Tangled as the voice of Joy in my head. Finding happiness in the things I like to do is an important aspect of life for me. You may think having someone who has been isolated in a tower is a peculiar choice. She knows how it feels to be trapped and restricted. Regardless of this she is still incredibly optimistic and I need that type of positivity to keep going. She is also very determined as she portrays this when she strove to see the floating lights. I want my joy to be someone who motivates me to do the things I love and accomplish my goals.

SADNESS - Meredith Grey

Why would you want a surgeon as your sadness? Maybe it’s because they're always stressed and busy, but my decision is deeper than that. Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy is emotionally damaged, but she used this trauma to act using logic despite her strong and complex inner feelings. Dr. Grey being incredibly educated is a bonus. I would want someone to use their sadness for good or for beneficial reasons. She uses her trauma and experiences to learn from it, but also to help patients. She is a great character to demonstrate that you can use sadness for self-growth and that experiencing this emotion can be beneficial. I will be reminded that my sadness exists for a reason and that joy cannot be achieved without it.

FEAR - Elsa

People tell you to overcome your fears and just to simply let them go. Which is harder to do than say.  Elsa would be the perfect character for my fear. Elsa was born with powers and consequently hurt her sister Anna in an attempt to use them. Ever since she’s grown afraid of her powers and scared that she’ll hurt somebody. She always fears that she will do something wrong and I can very heavily relate to that. I am such a big perfectionist and do my best not to hurt others. I also get super paranoid that something will go wrong. I perceive Elsa running away and hiding or fighting with Anna as panic attacks. Her decision to run away from her problems is very similar to my tendency to procrastinate. I would want my fear to be someone who shares the same fears as me, so the character of Elsa would be perfect.

ANGER - Gordon Ramsey

Yes, I chose an angry chef as the voice of anger in my head. Gordon Ramsey is incredibly aggressive, cusses a lot, gets easily irritated, and angry. A perfect choice for the voice of anger. Anger is such a prominent emotion in my life. I admit that I get angry and irritated over minor mishaps. Gordon Ramsey strives for perfection and gets mad when he receives anything less than perfection. I feel the same way, especially when it comes to my education and my schoolwork. My perfectionism and the idea of everything going the way I want it to, plays a big role on my emotions, especially anger. Having the voice of Gordon Ramsey accompanied by his Scottish accent would definitely make me a bigger hothead than I already am, but I am all for it.

DISGUST - Regina George

The classic mean girl and bully. The leader of the Plastics. I would cast Ms. Regina George herself as the voice of disgust in my head. She has such a large superiority complex and will do anything in her power to get what she wants. I heavily relate to that. Accompanied by her superiority complex is her incredibly judgmental tendencies and she is always closed off to new points of views. She lacks empathy for others. Although, there is no reason for you to not want Regina saying “That’s the ugliest effing skirt I’ve ever seen” in your head. She embodies the emotion of disgust.

  1. Kristina, you chose amazing characters that represent your emotions! When you described Elsa for fear, I loved your reference to “Let It Go.” It transitioned well with your explanation about sharing the same fears with her. However, choosing Regina George as disgust is what I was drawn to the most. I was very excited to see how you would relate it to yourself, and you hit every mark. The details you included about her supported what you had to say if she were your voice in your head. Good job as always!

  2. This is an amazing cast! Rapunzel is a great choice because like you said, she's always optimistic even though she has unfortunate circumstances. Another good one is Gordan Ramsey, who I actually chose for my disgust, but represents both anger and disgust incredibly well. His accent and tone of anger is super iconic and easy to recognize. Great choices for all your characters!

  3. Hi Kristina, All of the characters you chose made completely sense, and the fact that you gave each one extra backstory made it significantly better. You not only linked the characters to each role, but you also connected yourself to them and how you felt about them. All of these iconic characters you chose are really good selections
