I am from the quiet before the loud applause on stage
I am from the quiet chuckles that come from the adults in the back
And the loud laughter from the people so close to me that they feel like family
The stage is my home
I am from the smell of a freshly bought book
A book so freshly bought that one might be afraid to open the pages all the way for they might bend or break
I am from the late nights reading under a blanket with a flashlight bawling my eyes out at a character’s death
I am from rereading only my favorite parts of my favorite books so I could memorize them
Memorize the good things that I could think of randomly in Science class and smile at
I am from the warm embrace of the people I chose to call family
An embrace that I want to hold onto and remember forever
I am from a shy smile and a life-changing decision that surely changed mine
I am from every victory and failure
Even the ones I don’t remember and the ones I chose to forget
Even the ones that are glued behind my eyes and that I’ll never forget
I am from laying in flower fields
And the strong Rosebuds that lay in them, too, fully at peace
I am from the orange poppies that I used to put in my hair
And the last hug that I gave to her
I am from the music that flows through my head 24-7
The random song lyric that I can’t remember where it came from and I absolutely have to look up
And the notes that I put on the page to make a story
I am from the sound of a booming orchestra
That’s the sound of hard work paying off
And most importantly
The sound of joy

This poem is so meaningful and moving, Cassie! I love the final lines and the line “and the last hug I gave to her”; it’s so emotional and powerful, and it was interesting to get inside your head with this poem. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Cassie! Reading through your poem I saw how you referenced music a lot through out your whole piece, really representing how music has been something there for you every step of the way and how important it is to you even if it is underlying. I personally felt that making "I am the quiet before the loud appluase on stage" was such a strong beginning since that quiet usually occurs at the end of a performance. Overall your poem really highlighted the things that shine in you like yor joy and pride in Orchestra, amazing!
