Unceasing Growth And Change
I am from crystal blue water lakes under
The gleaming hot sun on a summer afternoon
I am from ragged dirt roads leading to a narrow path to a house
My home, not only a building but a family filled with unbreakable bonds
And long lasting memories
A building filled with laughter, tears and mixed emotions
I am from a dried out tree with a single swing attached
On the strongest branch
I am from triumph and wins, but along the way I came from
Disappointment and losses
I am from knee scrapes and countless retries on a blue bike
Though it wasn’t new like the other kids it functioned like it was supposed to
I am from luscious green rice fields on a sunday morning with a cold breeze flowing
Through your hair
I am from streetlights that lit up the lonely streets of the apartment complex, no one else
In sight but 5 kids running around playing hide and seek in the dark
I am from a 12ft slide that was made out of concrete,
not harsh but smooth as a marble counter
I am from moving hobby to hobby, finding myself and trying out new
Concepts that could and improve me into a better and sophisticated person
I am from sunburns and a glowing tanned skin after a 8 hour pool party
I am from poverty but lived everyday like it was an adventure
Hey Megan, while reading your poem I saw that you described your experiences in a very vague yet personal way creating a clear image of these events yet still keeping your stories personal to you. It creates a really great balance of curiosity from the reader and information at the same time, giving a way of seeing what brought you up and helped you grow. Overall I really enjoyed your piece!
