1 - Alexis A: Inside Out Voices

JOY - Woody (Toy Story)

Woody from Toy Story would be the voice of joy in my head. He is a character who enjoys the simple things. He finds happiness in putting energy into something small, whether or not it is worth time for. He is not afraid to show his excitement over it, which is something we share. I find joy in being optimistic like Woody through his adventurous and bright outlook on life. It is how I choose to do what makes me happy, even in the little things that are worth doing.

SADNESS - Olaf

When Olaf is sad, I think his emotions show because he is usually a happy character. He would be my voice for sadness because of his moments. Olaf shows how it is heartfelt when he is sad. This relates to how I would be sad because that is the time we wear our emotions on our sleeves. He has a time when he is vulnerable in that way, which is similar to how I would show myself being sad. Olaf reminds me and others that it is okay to feel sad sometimes.

FEAR - Michael Scott (The Office)

I chose Michael Scott from The Office, because when he is scared, he usually talks himself out of doing something that he said he was going to do. He shows the hesitation that I would have, and how it is shown with his thought process of something. I overthink a lot which I share with Michael when I would stall too. Similarly, we have a fear of not being liked. This is shown through his longing to be liked by others, which would relate to how I think about others perceiving my image. To some extent like Michael Scott, I think it is important for me to have that understanding of what others think.

ANGER - Mushu (Mulan)

I chose Mushu because he represents my frustration when I get angry. He is persistent and straightforward about what he is angry about, whether it's kept inside or spoken out loud. This is similar to how I convey anger because the frustration builds up until I say something about it. Because he is angry, he often complains. In my head, I complain about the things I am angry about until I end up venting about it to my friends.

DISGUST - Phoebe (Friends)

Phoebe from Friends represents disgust, because we have the same reaction of being shocked. We share being clueless until something happens that takes us by surprise. She is the silly character in her group of friends, and often smiles at something disgusting but showing discomfort. I would do the same because it shows in our faces that feeling of being taken aback first, and then it being lighthearted.

  1. Alexis, this blog is an incredible insight to your emotions. As being a close friend of yours, this helps me understand you in a different way. I initially thought the choice of Olaf for Sadness was a peculiar choice, but after you thoroughly explained why, I realized how perfect it was for you. I liked how you chose a mostly happy character, but analyzed how they portrayed sadness. I also love how you chose Mushu from Mulan as your anger, I thought that was hilarious and a quality choice. Overall, well done! You chose great characters and it helped give me a deeper understanding of your internal emotions.

  3. Alexis, choosing Olaf for Sadness was a unique and interesting choice, but I like how you picked it to show that you're different from the norm when you're sad. Instead of just depressed, you feel heartfelt, and I think that's an interesting choice to show because you're usually not sad and he's usually not sad. I also love Michael Scott as your choice for fear, because I always thought it was compelling in the show how he feared not being liked. These were really good choices! :)

  4. Hi Alexis
I love your choice of Disney characters in your Joy, Sadness, and Anger voices. They are so simple yet complex characters to pick apart and are shown to be cute by Disney but are so much more relatable than they appear to be. I feel the exact same way with Mushu like you said about being persistent and complaining, as I do the same. I think you analyzed and related each character to yourself very well and you should keep up the great writing, your descriptions are short but sweet and get to the point, and lets a reader like myself see the real you and into your emotions. Keep up the great work!

  5. Alexis, all of the characters you put for your emotions were awesome. I loved that you did Mushu for anger. He is such a fun character from Mulan and when he gets angry it's funny. I also like that you did Woody for joy because he is always positive. Great Job!

  6. Seeing all the childhood figures you put out really made me nostalgic. I also liked how you gave remarks about how you felt about the characters and how you related to it. Truth be told, this made me want to get up and watch disney/pixar movies again. Nice Blog!
