As young adults, we are faced with becoming more independent. Whether or not we have or even can fully experience it yet, we can think of ideas that introduce us to adulthood. Hanging out with friends unsupervised. Getting a job. Learning how to drive. If we so choose, go off to college. These experiences are new and exciting, but the feeling of standing up on your own is essential to growing up.
Increasing independence can be controlled through our mentality. Without thinking of factors, independence can demonstrate how we carry ourselves. Life is a journey, and we are bound to make mistakes along the way. This means tackling your problems, without the support of others. Although it seems like it casts a shadow on growing up with others around you, it's more of a sign to do things on your own without expecting from others. Start with yourself. Independence is rooted in a mindful feeling, rather than a way of living.
Parents are a significant factor in independence. I haven’t fully experienced growing independence. However, I am thankful for more opportunities recently, which is a push towards it. It shows that independence grows with time, no matter how parents choose to give their children freedom. At the end of the day, parents are doing their best to give them some freedom, good enough that they know they can manage life on their own. You must have the courage and responsibility to stand up on your own, and that’s what parents are expecting while finding your best self.
Independence is not a sign of getting older. Without growing independence, the mindful feeling would not be the same in adulthood. Growing independence is an important feeling in everyone’s life, especially in the journey ahead.

Hi Alexis
ReplyDeleteI love your post about independence. Every teenager has to deal with it at sometime as we approach young adulthood and graduation. Some of us like it and other are more forced into it or its gradual. I personally like gradually gaining independence and in my role as the oldest sister I take on a bit more responsibility. But with anything it has its highs and lows and it’s apart of life. Great work!
