10 - Alexis A: The Purpose of a High School Graduation

High school graduation is filled with anticipation. Some are excited about it because it means the four years will be over, while some are anxious because it means choosing a career. In the beginning, I didn’t know what it meant and even how to take steps towards walking across the stage, but its purpose to me is clearer. I view high school graduation as a new chapter in life.

With the tradition of throwing graduation caps in the air, I believe it has a symbolic meaning that signals a journey ahead. Independence. Navigating a career path. I believe these are the chapters that will be open to me through high school graduation. A new chapter is created after reflecting on accomplishments and experiences, high school is one of them.

In my four years, I believe hard work and dedication guide me towards the goal of graduating. I’m not just driven by getting this amount of credits to graduate or this class to take. Like everyone else, there is always an end goal that I want to achieve. High school graduation celebrates success, which allows new chapters in life. Right now, it is a big part of my life, but I believe it will become a chapter among many.

While it seems like a ceremony marking four years that will be put in the past, high school graduation is more meaningful than that. It celebrates all your experiences and accomplishments, allowing you to take steps towards adulthood. The purpose of high school graduation is different for everyone, but when we experience it, it will leave a mark on our future. To me, a new chapter.

  1. I like how this post talks about the responsibilities after high school without making graduation sound stressful. Sometimes when I think of my graduation I have anxiety about my future career because I'm probably going to be a starving artist, so it made me feel comforted to hear it talked about so hopefully, like the first step in the journey. Good job, Alexis! :)
