6 - Kristina G: The Transparency of a Window

A window is a transparent panel on the wall, on the side of a building, on all sides of a car. Essentially, a window’s function is to allow admission of sunlight and allows you to see out of it. It also functions to allow air in and out as you are able to open and close it.

I identify more as a window than a door in many ways.

Windows are what allow you to see what is outside and that goes the same for the other side, you are also allowed to see inside. I personally associate with this aspect of a window because I allow people to see through me. I can be very open with my emotions, thoughts, and feelings. I am not afraid to speak my mind when it is necessary.

Despite the fact that windows are transparent, it doesn't mean you can get through them without opening them. It is still a barrier from the inside world to the outside. That goes the same for me as even though I can be very open, it doesn't mean I will allow everyone to come through and be able to inspect or become a big part of my life. The glass on a window is not impossible to break, but can still be difficult. Therefore, for someone to truly experience my real, full, and no filter personality, it will take some time, connection, and trust.

Although I don’t enjoy being very closed off, I can be. Windows can be covered by curtains or blinds, not allowing any visibility. Essentially, I close myself off sometimes whether it’s on purpose or not. In situations where I am uncomfortable or during times where my mood is not at its peak I usually shut myself away from the world, most specifically my emotions and burdens. These are the things that I allow curtains to cover.

Windows. I’m a window. Taking a peek at my life is not difficult, but entering is the real challenge.

  1. Kristina, you described how you are more like a window than a door very well. I enjoyed reading about the meaning of a window’s transparency as it relates to you as a person. Adding curtains and blinds was also clever and was perfect for your explanation about being open and closed off at times. Great job.

  2. Kristina, this was a beautiful metaphor. Windows are a perfect way to explain people who are open but still cautious, letting people see but not letting everyone inside. I think this is a beautiful way to live; even people who are open still need to set boundaries and not just let anyone inside. Great job! :)
