2 - Connor K : I Am From poem

I am from arepas and burgers,

I am from playing soccer and hitting a bag,

I am from Spanish and English all rolled into one

I am from two worlds.

I am from Houston where the air is warm

Where best friends and family alike roam

I am from early mornings and late nights.

I am from many states of which memories fleet as time goes on.

I am from hurricanes and ice storms,

From wildfires and tornadoes.

I am from the end of my neighborhood which curls into a cul-de-sac

From praying at dinner to sleeping in on Sundays.

I am from waiting all night to see my dad come home.

Whose every interest I would replicate.

From Star Wars to boxing. From food to naps.
I am from watching Band of Brothers and The Pacific with him.

I am from watching soccer with my mother and hearing her scream when Colombia scored.

I am from saying goodbye to a world I knew to travel to a new one.

I am from long nights crying wondering if my friends forgot about me.

Wondering if anyone even cared.

Finally relating to my siblings who almost gave in to the depression and dread.

I am from resilience and being able to get out of bed and try again.

I am from trial and error sinking down into becoming someone I was not.

I am from rising above problems.

Learning you are better than they give you credit for.

I am from mornings where I feel excited for the day to come,

And from nights where all I can dream about are good things.
