Laying in bed staring at the ceiling waiting for the alarm to go off because you woke up before the alarm and you can’t fall back asleep. Drowning in your thoughts.( What am I going to wear? Do I have practice today? Is it going to be a good day?) The sun slowly peering through the blinds to start a new day for the people who didn’t beat the sun to the horizon. Alarm. Water rushing, brushing your teeth. Starting the day.

We sit in a classroom each morning (8:40, 9:30) bell. Next class has started. Mumbling, whispering, feet tapping, keyboards clicking, chairs squeaking, AC blowing, bell. We do the same thing everyday every 6 to 7 class periods in a row.
You have strength.
Practice where you feel pressure to perform without even being pressured. You feel like you get better one day and worse the next. It’s what brings you joy and excitement but at the same time sadness and fear. It’s at times when you feel the most humble but you're running, dribbling, shooting, scoring, sweating, singing, dancing, playing, breathing, giving it your all.
You have strength.
Flash back, sitting in front of a screen listening to teachers who don’t feel like teaching. Sitting half awake in the kitchen, backyard, bedroom, closet, bathroom, garage anywhere to block out the noise of everyone in the house. Feeling lonely and trapped in your thoughts.
You have strength.
Look back at what you’ve gone through and look at where you are now. See that you do have strength to conquer the battles that may come your way. Don’t ever think that you can’t becases your past proves that you can. Everyday that goes by shows that you're constantly growing and getting stronger. Don’t dwell on the past but be proud of your past and the accomplishments you have made.
Laying waiting for the alarm to go off,
Sitting waiting for the bell to ring,
Running waiting to get back,
Sitting waiting for Zoom to end.
Pacing, sweating, running, crying, falling down, stopping.
You Have Strength.

Hi Izzy
ReplyDeleteYour post was so fun to read and written very well. It had a poetic style to it and it was very descriptive. Your line about zoom gave me a flashback to that year of online school and its so relatable. Surviving the pandemic and doing full time online school really does require strength. Now returning to a year fully in person is a big shift that requires strength as well. And any workout or sport does too, physically and mentally. So many things require both and I feel you described it so well. Great work!
