Loss is something that is so hard to deal with at any point in life. You could be at the peak of your life, happy as can be with lots of friends, but lose someone close to you. Suddenly, everything spirals downwards out of control until you barely have the motivation to get out of your own bed in the morning. It’s sometimes really hard to recover from this without external help and support, but it is doable.
Me, thankfully, I haven’t really had to deal with huge amounts of loss. Probably the biggest loss I’ve experienced was the loss of my dog who I grew up with last year around this time. When I lost relatives somewhat close to me, I was too young to really understand what losing them meant. On top of that, life for me sort of went on as normal since they weren’t in my everyday life. It was sort of like “out of sight, out of mind” which sounds terrible, but that’s the best way I can think of it. I sometimes forget I lost my Uncle Perry when I was little and still say “Perry and Lori” as if I were in the past.
With my experiences with loss, it’s okay to experience and acknowledge the emotions and feelings surrounding it, and then move on and be happy again. I bet the person you’ve lost would’ve wanted you to move on and be happy because they loved you. It can be hard to do so sometimes, but taking the time to get over loss can allow you to be your best self.

Cassie, your blog about loss was powerful. I thought the way you introduced it really conveyed how unexpected and hard it can be. Thank you for sharing anecdotes, and I liked the message you had about loss at the end too. Good job.
